Data Recovery
Back to Knowledge BaseThe importance of backing up your data files cannot be too highly emphasised. Computers are at risk to fire, theft, electrical surge, static electricity, mechanical breakdown, malicious intervention and software corruption.
When a failure has occurred, it may still be possible to recover some files entirely, since the file data only completely disappears when the coded information is overwritten with new material.
As the new information is written to the hard disk, it is not distributed in a uniform pattern, so that it is often not possible to say whether information can be wholly retrieved until the process of recovery is completed.
CMC IT can attempt a full recovery of your ‘lost’ files, even in the most severe cases.
TIPS
When you have identified the possibility that files are missing, immediately stop using your computer to limit any damage that might be happening. Be proactive in preventing data loss. Examine the reasons loss has occurred and put in place changes to your set up to make sure it can’t happen again. More often than not, the last action you made, a mistake during a new installation for example, precipitated the data corruption.
